Our hot air balloon safaris take place in the heart of the Magalies River Valley, one of South Africa’s most established and scenic ballooning regions.
The launch site is located near Skeerpoort, approximately one hour from both Johannesburg and Pretoria; west of Hartbeespoort dam. This area offers ideal flying conditions, with wide open spaces, flowing river systems, farmland, and natural bushveld.
Each flight follows the wind direction in the morning, ensuring a unique and ever-changing journey through the valley at sunrise.
Exact meeting directions and check-in details are provided upon confirmed booking. All flights depart shortly after sunrise and are subject to suitable weather conditions.

What to expect
Fitness Requirements
Your hot air balloon safari is a complete sunrise experience, carefully structured from arrival to landing.
Early morning check-in
Arrive before sunrise at our Clubhouse Pavilion in the Magalies River Valley, where you’ll be welcomed with tea, coffee, and light refreshments.
Balloon preparation and inflation
Watch as the balloons come to life in the early morning light, a unique behind-the-scenes moment before take-off.
One-hour sunrise flight
Drift gently with the wind over the valley as the landscape unfolds below, offering a peaceful and uninterrupted perspective from the air.
Celebratory landing
Upon landing, enjoy a traditional glass of sparkling wine and orange juice with your pilot and crew.
Full English breakfast
Return to the Clubhouse Pavilion for a relaxed breakfast overlooking the Magalies River Valley.
Certificate of Bravery
Each guest receives a commemorative certificate to mark the experience.
Hot air ballooning is a gentle and accessible experience, however a reasonable level of mobility is required for safety.
Ability to stand for the duration of the flight
Passengers are required to stand for approximately one hour during the flight.
Comfortable climbing in and out of the basket
Entry requires stepping into the basket using footholds, with assistance from the crew.
Stable landing position
Passengers must be able to adopt a seated “brace position” during landing as instructed by the pilot.
General mobility and balance
You should be steady on your feet and able to move without assistance.
Health considerations
Ballooning may not be suitable for pregnant guests or individuals with recent injuries or serious medical conditions.
If you are unsure about your suitability, our team will gladly assist and advise prior to booking.
Limited capacity per flight, early booking is recommended
Children Passengers
Passenger safety is our main priority, and therefore, the following regulations about children (7 – 12 year old) are in place:
- Children must be OLDER THAN 7 years & children must be TALLER THAN 1.3 meters in height – and be able to see over the edge of the basket.
- BOTH the age and the height requirements must be met to be allowed to participate.
- Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the activity.
- Please advise on booking, the number of children in the party, as well as their ages, heights and weights.
- The pilot reserves the right to refuse to load children who are too small on the hot air balloon for safety reasons.
- Children Passengers will be measured on the morning of the flight, at check-in, to ensure they comply with the minimum height requirement. Should the child not be deemed tall enough to safely participate in the hot air balloon activity, the flight ticket will be forfeited (non-refundable nor re-bookable).
Flights take place shortly after sunrise and are entirely dependent on suitable weather conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
