A Complete Hot Air Balloon Experience
A gift voucher offers far more than the balloon flight itself. From the first cup of coffee before sunrise to breakfast at our private Clubhouse Pavilion, every part of the morning contributes to a memorable experience.
Each balloon safari includes:

The complete experience generally lasts between three and four hours, including the pre-flight preparations, approximately one hour in the air, the traditional landing celebration, and breakfast.
Sunrise Ballooning in the Magalies River Valley
Bill Harrop’s “Original” Balloon Safaris has been sharing the magic of flight since 1981.
Our private launch site is situated in Skeerpoort, approximately one hour from Johannesburg and Pretoria. As the balloon rises with the morning sun, guests enjoy changing views across the Magalies River Valley, including farmland, natural bushveld, river systems, and the surrounding mountain scenery.
Every flight follows the wind, which means that no two balloon safaris are ever quite the same.
How Our Gift Vouchers Work
Once the selected balloon safari experience has been paid for, we will prepare a personalised gift voucher letter in PDF format.
The PDF will be sent to you by email, allowing you to print and present it or forward it electronically to the recipient. No physical gift card or printed voucher package is delivered.
Each voucher is issued for the selected balloon safari experience and is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. The recipient must contact our reservations team to select and reserve a suitable flight date.
All flight dates are subject to availability, minimum passenger requirements, suitable weather conditions, and final confirmation from Bill Harrop’s “Original” Balloon Safaris.
The balloon flight must be undertaken within the validity period stated on the voucher. The voucher letter does not constitute a confirmed flight reservation until a specific flight date has been booked and confirmed.
Before Purchasing a Gift Voucher
Hot air ballooning is an active outdoor experience. Before purchasing a voucher, please ensure that the intended recipient meets our participation requirements.
Participants must:
- Be at least seven years old
- Be at least 1.35 metres tall
- Be able to climb into and out of the 1.35-metre-high balloon basket without assistance
- Be able to jump unassisted from a height of approximately 60 centimetres
- Be able to stand for approximately one hour during the flight
Hot air ballooning is not suitable for pregnant passengers. Additional medical, mobility, and fitness considerations should be discussed with our reservations team before purchasing.
Gift vouchers are issued in the named recipient’s details and are non-transferable. All vouchers and reservations remain subject to our standard booking terms and conditions.
Weather and Flight Arrangements
Hot air balloon flights are entirely weather dependent and operate strictly at the discretion of the pilot.
Weather conditions cannot be accurately confirmed far in advance. A final operational decision is made closer to the scheduled flight, based on the most reliable aviation weather information available.
Should Bill Harrop’s “Original” Balloon Safaris cancel a flight because of unsuitable weather conditions, the booking will be handled in accordance with the terms and conditions applicable to the voucher.
