At Bill Harrop’s “Original” Balloon Safaris, we have been welcoming guests to the skies for over four decades. What began as a passion for ballooning has grown into one of southern Africa’s most trusted and celebrated aviation experiences.

Every sunrise flight is special to us, because we know it is special to you. Whether you are celebrating a milestone, ticking off a bucket list dream, or simply seeking a different perspective, our team is committed to making your experience seamless, safe, and unforgettable.

Safety remains at the heart of everything we do. Our professionally licensed pilots, experienced crew, and meticulously maintained equipment ensure that every flight is conducted to the highest standards. At the same time, we never lose sight of the joy, wonder, and quiet magic that make ballooning so extraordinary.

From the moment you arrive for your early morning coffee to the sparkling wine celebration and breakfast after landing, our goal is simple: to create memories that stay with you long after your feet return to the ground.

Where do you fly from?

We operate on the border of Western Gauteng/North West Province.

Our flights take place in the beautiful Magalies River Valley, approximately one hour from Johannesburg or Pretoria. This area is known for wide open skies, dramatic mountain views, and some of the most reliable ballooning weather in the world, which makes it ideal for safe, scenic sunrise flights.

We also offer game-viewing hot air balloon flights in Mabula Private Game Reserve in Limpopo, a truly unique way to experience the bush from above.

When do you fly?

Early, every morning of the week including Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting and provided we have a minimum of four people on a weekday. Departure times are confirmed when you book.
